Working with Good People

The pigs going to processor next week are coming from a partnership we’ve been working on with another farmer down in Lynchburg (Hillcity Hogs). Jacob raises his pigs exactly the same way we do – pasture-raised, no shortcuts, same standards we hold ourselves to, living their best life in the woods. It’s been great finding someone who shares the same approach to raising animals the right way.

We’ve been a bit limited on space here at the farm as we’re bulking up our cattle herd, and horses have taken over a good bit.

We feel that working with like-minded farmers makes sense for everyone. He gets to focus on what he does best, and we can offer our customers more consistent availability throughout the year. A win-win if you will.

About This Week’s Sale

The 25% off applies to all individual pork cuts we currently have in stock – chops, bacon, sausage, ground pork, roasts, all of it. The sale excludes our pork bundles and shares since those are already discounted.

We’ll be fully restocked in about three weeks, so this is just what we’ve got on hand right now. If you’ve been thinking about stocking up on Woodland Pork, this week’s a good time to do it.

Always Grateful for This Community

You know, every week when I sit down to write this newsletter, I’m reminded of how grateful we are for the support from folks in Scottsville, as well as Charlottesville and the surrounding areas.

When we started Longbottom Farm, we hoped people would care about how their food is raised, but the response has been better than we could have imagined.

It’s not just the customers either – it’s the conversations at the farmers market, the families we meet when picking up orders, and the questions about our practices.

That’s what makes this work worthwhile, even on the days when the pigs decide to test just how secure that fence really is.

What’s Coming Up

Turkey season is coming up fast – always seems like we just finished one Thanksgiving and we’re already planning for the next one. That’s farming for you, always thinking a season or two ahead.

We are taking turkeys in next week as well, and will begin taking preorders for Thanksgiving Turkeys once they’re back on farm.

Cattle are scheduled to go to the processor in 3 weeks, so anticipating being restocked in all the retail cuts as well as 1/8th and 1/4th beef shares. Stay tuned!

Local Delivery – We offer local home delivery to the Scottsville / Charlottesville / Palmyra areas (availability is determined by zip code at checkout).
