Our Virginia-raised beef at Longbottom Farm is grass-fed & grass-finished. We provide cuts from pasture-raised cattle that produce a rich, complex, and artisanal flavor. The cattle are allowed to mature slowly on grass, just as nature intended. We feed no supplemental grains nor use hormones or antibiotics. This means you get great tasting, healthy, chemical free cuts of beef. Grass-fed beef has been shown to be higher in heart and brain healthy omega 3 fatty acids, beta carotene, and vitamins A & E. This translates into a premium, grass-fed, pasture-raised beef we know you are going to love!

Questions / FAQ
Vaccines
We are deeply committed to farming in harmony with nature. Our focus is on providing high-quality, grass-fed beef through sustainable and ethical practices. A key aspect of our farming philosophy is the health and well-being of our herd. To this end, we use a traditional 7-way vaccine to protect our cattle from diseases like black leg, which is essential for maintaining a healthy herd. We understand and respect the concerns about modern vaccinations, and we want to assure our customers that we do not use any mRNA vaccines and have no plans to incorporate them in our practices. Our approach is a blend of traditional farming values and modern health standards, ensuring that our cattle are raised in a natural, healthy environment.
Wormers
Our dedication to natural and sustainable farming extends to every aspect of our animal care, including our approach to managing parasites. We primarily rely on diatomaceous earth, a natural method, to manage soil and animal health. This approach aligns with our commitment to maintaining a healthy ecosystem for both our soil and cattle.
It’s worth noting that, thanks to these natural practices, we haven’t had the need to use a wormer, such as ivermectin, for several years. However, we are mindful that certain conditions may arise in the future where the use of a wormer could become necessary for the health and well-being of our herd. In such instances, we will use it judiciously and only as required. This cautious approach ensures that we intervene minimally and responsibly, always prioritizing the natural growth and health of our cattle. Our goal remains steadfast: to provide the healthiest, most natural conditions for our cattle and to uphold our commitment to ethical farming practices for the production of high-quality, sustainable beef.
Antibiotics
We prioritize the natural health and well-being of our cattle, aligning closely with the rhythms of nature in our farming practices. Our commitment to providing high-quality, grass-fed beef is matched by our dedication to ethical and sustainable farming methods. Consistent with this ethos, we adopt a cautious approach to the use of antibiotics. We only administer antibiotics when absolutely necessary for the health of an animal. In such cases, to maintain the integrity of our product and our promise to our customers, any animal treated with antibiotics is removed from our grass-fed program and redirected to the commercial market or sale barn. This practice ensures that the beef we offer from our farm remains free from antibiotics, reflecting our commitment to natural farming and the trust our customers place in us.
Grassfed & Finished?
We take great pride in not only raising our cattle on a grass-fed diet but also ensuring they are grass-finished. This commitment to a 100% grass-fed and finished lifestyle is at the core of our farming philosophy. From the moment our cattle are born, they graze freely on our lush pastures, feeding on a natural diet of grasses throughout their lives. This practice doesn’t just end at a certain point; our cattle are grass-finished, meaning they remain on a grass diet right up until harvest.
This approach ensures that the beef we provide is not only healthier and more nutritious but also has a superior flavor profile. Grass feeding and finishing contribute to leaner, more flavorful meat, rich in beneficial omega-3 fats, vitamins, and minerals. By committing to this process, we ensure our beef is not only raised in the most natural and ethical way possible but also offers the best in taste and quality for our customers. At Longbottom Farm, we believe in the power of nature’s simplicity and are dedicated to providing our customers with the purest, most naturally raised beef.
Hormones
We embrace a philosophy of natural and sustainable farming that extends to every aspect of our cattle care. Central to our ethos is the commitment to raise our cattle without the use of hormones, whether for growth enhancement or reproductive purposes. We believe in allowing our animals to grow at a natural pace and reproduce in accordance with nature’s rhythms. This means we steer clear of any artificial interventions like hormone treatments, ensuring the beef we provide is as natural as the environment we farm in. Our approach is rooted in the belief that quality and health come from adhering to nature’s way. We take pride in offering our customers beef that is not only delicious but also raised with the highest standards of natural farming practices.
Do You Use Grain?
Our commitment to natural and sustainable cattle farming shapes every decision we make. While some farms use grain in a training bucket to call their cattle, we take a different approach. We use non-GMO alfalfa pellets, a natural and healthier alternative to grain.
Alfalfa, a member of the clover family, is a testament to our dedication to natural farming practices. It’s a highly nutritious plant that provides our cattle with a rich source of vitamins, minerals, and protein, promoting their health and well-being. This choice is a reflection of our philosophy: to keep our cattle’s diet as close to their natural grazing habits as possible. By opting for non-GMO alfalfa pellets, we ensure the physical health of our cattle and maintain our commitment to sustainable and ethical farming practices. This method is integral to our goal of providing high-quality, naturally raised, and sustainable beef, aligning perfectly with the values we hold dear at our farm.
