Rewrite Your Stories This New Year!

The New Year is here, and with it comes the tradition of setting resolutions. But this year, instead of focusing on goals like losing weight or saving money (which Iām already pursuing), Iām making a different kind of resolution.
My goal for 2024? To rewrite the stories I tell myself.
We all have these stories running through our heads. You know, the ones that quietly hold us back:
- Iām too introverted to do that.
- I donāt have the experience.
- Itās too late for me.
They feel so real that they start shaping who we think we are. But hereās the truth: these stories are just words. Theyāre not us. And if theyāre not serving us, we can rewrite them.
āIām Introverted.ā
This used to be my favorite excuse. I told myself I wasnāt built for networking or meeting new people. But hereās what Iāve learned: introversion isnāt a weaknessāitās a different way of interacting with the world.
Instead of big, loud events, Iāve found one-on-one conversations work best for me. Writing this email to you? Itās another way I connect.
Rewriting this story helped me embrace who I am and find new ways to build relationshipsāon my terms.
āI Have No Experience.ā

When we bought this farm eight years ago, I had no clue what I was doing. I told myself, Youāre going to failāyouāve never done this before.
But hereās the thing: you donāt need experience to start. You just need curiosity and the courage to try. Getting used to being uncomfortable.
Now, looking back, I see how far weāve come. This farm has grown, not because I knew it all, but because I stopped letting āI donāt knowā be the end of the story.
āIām Too Old.ā
This one hits close to home. Pushing 50 this year. Itās easy to think, āI missed my chanceā. But the truth is, itās never too late to start.
I could tell myself Iām to old, but then Iād just spend the next 10 years doing something else, and likely regretting the decision in 10 years.
Also, age isnāt a limitationāitās an advantage. It means you have the patience and wisdom to tackle things you couldnāt when you were younger.
Sure, there is the physical demands, but there are ways of dealing with that, and the alternative (less active lifestyle) is a much worse option in my opinion.
My Resolution: Rewriting the Stories

This year, Iām making a commitment to ask myself: Is this story serving me? If the answer is no, Iām rewriting it.
- Instead of saying, Iām not good at this, Iāll say, Iām learning.
- Instead of, This is just the way I am, Iāll ask, How can I grow?
- Instead of āIām no good at gardeningā, Iāll say āI haven’t put forth the effort to be good at gardeningā.
Rewriting these stories opens up possibilities. It helps us become who we can be instead of who we think we are.
What stories are you carrying into this New Year? Are they helping youāor holding you back?
If youāre ready to rewrite them, Iād love to hear your thoughts.
Hereās to a year of rewriting, growing, and becoming the best versions of ourselves.
Thanks for following us and allowing us to serve you. If you have questions, give us a shout! Have a wonderful week and Happy New Year!

With our appreciation,
Jason, Lexi, & Family
