🔥 The Heat Is No Joke
If you stepped outside this past week, you know exactly what we’ve been dealing with.
Most of this week has been brutal. Even the simple stuff—checking waters, feeding animals—felt like a full-body workout.
We found ourselves not just making sure everyone had water, but that it was actually cool water. That meant moving troughs into the shade, dumping hot water, and refilling more often than usual.
It’s not glamorous, but that’s farm life when the heat index climbs.
🐔 Night Shift Chicken Loading
To top it off, we had a group of broilers scheduled for the processor this past Tuesday (the hottest day of this heat wave). But with temps pushing 100 and feeling like 110, we had to wait until after dark to load them.
It was our first experience catching 300 chickens by headlamp? Turns out, headlamps are basically “bug magnets” for your face.
We left the farm at 11:30 PM and pulled back in at 4 AM. Long night, but worth it to keep the birds (and us) safe.
⛅ A Welcome Cool-Down
Believe it or not, 89 degrees feels like a relief after that stretch. The animals all handled it well, and we’re thankful for that.
These kinds of weeks are just part of the rhythm — not always pretty, but always part of the story.

Farm Pick-Up – Order online and pick up your order at our newly constructed barn. Place your order online, then once you receive the “Your Order is Ready for Pick-up” email (24 – 72 hours), pick-up anytime between 8am – 8pm SEVEN DAYS A WEEK! Your Order will be placed in our outdoor freezers / fridge for pick-up at your convenience and labeled with your name. Easy-peasy!
Local Delivery – We offer local home delivery to the Scottsville / Charlottesville / Palmyra areas (availability is determined by zip code at checkout). We deliver every Thursday for orders over $50 ($6 delivery charge) and FREE DELIVERY for orders over $99. Simply Order online and we’ll take care of the rest!
