‘Round The Farm

Nelson was feeling extra cuddly this morning.

Ash was too 🤗

Last batch done for the year, and we had the best help!

That said, planning on putting these guys to good use next season!
I’m a bit short on pictures this week, so please enjoy a full minute of my chubby man horse scratching his belly 🐴
Why Pasture-Raised Matters
As fall approaches and things begin to slow down a bit on the farm, I wanted to take a moment to talk about why pasture-raised meats matter.
When you choose our pork, beef, chicken, and eggs, you’re not just getting high-quality products—you’re supporting sustainable farming that prioritizes the health of our animals and the land they live on.
Our animals are raised on pasture, where they roam freely, graze, and live as nature intended.
This results in meat that’s not only richer in flavor but also higher in nutrients like Omega-3s, vitamins, and minerals. As I get older, my body reminds me daily that I need more of all of these, haha.
At Longbottom Farm, we believe in giving our animals the space to thrive naturally. They’re not confined to cramped feedlots or barns but are rotated through lush pastures, which improves soil health and reduces the need for synthetic fertilizers.
This practice also ensures our animals get a diverse diet of grasses, bugs, and forage, which directly contributes to the superior taste and nutritional profile of our meats.
Pasture-raising also allows us to avoid routine antibiotics and hormones, giving you a cleaner, more natural product. Their conditions are much better thus they are sick much less often.
Not to mention, it’s better for the environment. Our farming practices sequester carbon, promote biodiversity, and make better use of natural resources like water.
So, when you choose Longbottom Farm, you’re making a choice that’s better for you, better for the animals, and better for the planet. Win-Win-Win!
Quick Update: Mark your calendars!
On November 1st at 11 a.m., we’re launching the pre-sale for our Thanksgiving turkeys. We’ll have turkeys in sizes ranging from:
Medium (12 – 16 lbs)
Large (16 – 19 lbs)
Extra-large (19 – 21 lbs)
Holy Smokes! (22 – 26 lbs)
You’ll have the option to reserve with a deposit or pay in full. Pick-up will be available at the farm anytime before Thanksgiving. These turkeys have been raised the right way: they spent their first 6 weeks in a cozy brooder, and the next 3 months on pasture enjoying a natural diet with a little help from non-GMO feed—no antibiotics, wormers, or chemicals here. We’re excited to be part of your holiday feast this year!
These birds are truly special, and we’re expecting they’ll go fast. It’s first come, first served, but if demand is high, we’ll ramp up production next year to accommodate more orders!
Lastly, We’re thrilled to share that we’ll have smoked / cured bacon back early this week! This is a change from our typical bacon (uncured). The processor we used this round only offers it cured, and we didn’t want you to be without bacon.
While this is different from our usual uncured bacon—where salt is produced during processing—our cured bacon has synthetic salt added. While we prefer the more natural method (uncured), both methods produce nitrites, which perform the same role in preservation that is required due to heat being applied to the meat during smoking.
If you’re looking for totally natural bacon, we also have sliced pork belly available in 1 and 3 lb packs. This is just pure pork belly. I.e. Bacon with no smoking or additives period—sliced and packaged; perfect for any dish!
Thank you for continuing to support Longbottom Farm. We couldn’t do this without you!
