Here’s Whats Happening ‘Round the Farm

Hey Reader,

It’s been a few weeks since you’ve heard from me – life has a way of getting ahead of you sometimes. But I wanted to check in and share a few things going on around here.

Eggs are back in stock(ish).

Production has picked up a bit and we’ve got some available in the store right now.

We’ll keep listing them as we have them, so if you’ve been wanting some, now’s a good time to grab them while they’re there.

Beef — we may have a new processor in the mix.

We work with one or two processors we really trust and have used for years. They do quality work and that matters to us.

The challenge has always been booking dates. We have to get our slots more than 1 year in advance, and when we need to move an animal and our usual folks are full, we’re stuck waiting.

So we’ve been looking around for a backup option and we think we’ve found one we feel good about.

Worth mentioning. Why be so selective with a processor? The challenge is every processor cuts and labels things a little differently, which is more of a farming reality than most people realize.

We ran into this recently with our pork (which we have plenty in stock!).

What we’ve always sold as boneless chops came back from this last batch labeled “sliced pork loin.”

Bone-in chops came back as “center cut pork chops.”

Same cut, different name.

It’s actually one of the reasons we moved away from cut sheets. It gets confusing fast, even for us as the farmers.

If something looks a little different in the store, we always try and flag it, or explain in the product description.

Same quality, just occasionally different packaging language.

Where we’re headed.

I’ll be straightforward with you, we’re being more intentional about what we do around here.

The farm is shifting toward doing fewer things and doing them really well.

Cattle will remain our anchor. Beyond that, we’re evaluating everything else and figuring out what makes sense going forward.

We’re not disappearing. We’re just being a little more deliberate. And honestly, I think that’s going to mean better product and better availability for the things we do offer.

More details as things develop. Thanks for being a customer and for reading these. It means the world and we couldn’t do this without you.

If it’s not good enough for our table, it won’t be put out there for yours.

Thanks for following us and allowing us to serve you. If you have questions, give us a shout! Have a wonderful week!

With our appreciation,
