One of Our Newest Additions
Here at Longbottom Farm, each season reminds us that farming is full of ups and downs, and it takes resilience and focus to stay grounded.
With every step, from caring for animals to tending to pastures, we encounter things we can control—and even more that we can’t.
Like anyone, we have different ideas on the best way to do things, and some choices lead to better outcomes than others. But we’re all working toward the same goal: providing good, honest food that nourishes.
When we’re sorting our cattle for processing, it’s clear that each one is unique. Some are ready, while others need more time to grow.
Our broiler batches are the same way. Some chickens grow quickly, others take longer, and every batch has its own surprises. And as much as we’d like things to go perfectly every time, we know there are variables we can’t control.
But if we spent all our time comparing one group to the next, or wishing every animal would grow the same, we’d miss out on what’s right in front of us.
There’s a trap in getting too focused on what’s “out there” rather than what we can do right here on the farm. It’s tempting to wonder if the grass is greener somewhere else or if some outside force could make life easier.
But when we spend too much time thinking about the things we can’t change, it pulls us away from what we can change: the choices we make each day, the work we do, and the attention we give to what truly matters.
Farming has shown us that real success comes from sticking to what’s in front of us, no matter the season’s twists and turns. Worrying too much about what’s beyond our control—the weather, the market, or outside opinions—doesn’t get the work done, and it doesn’t improve our lives or yours.
The only way to keep the farm running strong is by staying close to what we know and investing in each day’s work with care and purpose.
We hope that same focus on what matters most brings a little peace and good food to your table. Thanks for supporting us on this journey and for valuing the hard work and dedication we pour into every pasture-raised product.
Thanks for following us and allowing us to serve you. If you have questions, give us a shout or Share Your Thoughts here. Have a wonderful week!
