Through the Mail of Course!

Ordering chicks and turkey poults through the mail dates back to the early 1900s when the U.S. Postal Service began offering live animal delivery. This innovation made it possible for farmers across the country to access high-quality poultry breeds without needing to travel. Hatcheries would carefully package day-old chicks and poults in special boxes, ensuring they stayed warm during transport. This system revolutionized small-scale farming and backyard poultry raising, allowing farmers to expand their flocks with ease. Today, this tradition continues, with modern hatcheries shipping chicks and poults to customers nationwide.

We’re excited to let you know that our pasture-raised Thanksgiving turkeys will be available for purchase starting this Thursday at 10 AM!

These birds are in limited supply, and we expect them to sell out fast, so be sure to reserve yours early.

Here’s what makes our turkeys extra special:

Raised on Pasture: Our turkeys are raised in mobile range coops, which are moved daily to give them access to fresh grass, bugs, and forage. In fact, up to 40% of their diet comes from the pasture—making them not only delicious but also as natural as it gets. We also provide supplemental non-GMO feed to ensure they grow strong and healthy.

Thanksgiving Perfection: Whether you’re hosting family or keeping it cozy, these turkeys are perfect for your Thanksgiving table. You can truly taste the difference in a bird raised with care and respect for the land.

Easy Pick-Up or Delivery: You can pick up your turkey right here on the farm, or if you prefer, we’ll bring it to your door for a $15 fee. We’ve had to add this charge due to the size and logistics, but it means you can relax at home—maybe even enjoy your coffee in your PJs—while we handle all the work.

Thank you so much for supporting local, pasture-raised meats! We’re grateful to have you as part of the Longbottom Farm family.

And don’t forget—Make sure to grab your turkey before they’re all gone, because like cousin Eddie, you know someone’s going to want that neck! 🤣😂

Out of Eggs for Now, But Stay Tuned!

Eggs - Out of Stock

As some of you know, our current flock is getting older. We’ve had them for about two years, and while they’re still laying, the eggs are getting whiter, with thinner shells, and much less abundant meaning we can’t meet demand.

It’s time for them to move on from production to new homes where they’ll have a good life. We sell them to backyard operations where they can continue to thrive.

The bad news is we won’t have new pullets until spring, which means we’ll be out of eggs indefinitely.

In the meantime, Farmstead Ferment carries a limited number of eggs, but we don’t have a perfect solution just yet. We’re actively exploring partnerships with backyard chicken operations, and if all goes well, we hope to have eggs available before spring.

In the meantime, I do want to offer a quick warning: Be cautious of store-bought eggs labeled as ‘Pasture-Raised.’

The USDA doesn’t define ‘pasture-raised,’ so many eggs with that label might come from birds raised in a building with ‘access’ to the outdoors (which often means dirt or concrete and little to no actual pasture).

Rest assured, we’re working hard to bring you real, pasture-raised eggs soon.

Thank you so much for your patience and support as we work through this. As I find reliable egg sources, I’ll keep you updated!

P.S. We love seeing our products in action! Share your culinary creations with us (tag us) on Facebook, Instagram, and Threads.  Let’s spread the joy of cooking and eating together.
