‘Round the Farm

Not sure I’m ready for this quite yet.

It’s a bit grainy, but an eagle found a snack.

Always a relief to know that when winter hits, we’ve got plenty for the cattle to eat.

Hayfield Headaches

We spent most of the week cutting and baling hay. And to be honest, it just about broke me.
A few blades were on backwards on my cutter.
The hydraulics went out on the tedder (thing that spreads the hay to dry).
The baler snapped ~ 20 bolts (protective bolts to keep from breaking more important parts).
And every time that happened, I had to dump a roll of hay without finishing it.
Still, we baled the main two pastures and that’s a solid jump on winter feed. One pasture didn’t work out—the windrows were too thick to bale—but that’s how it goes sometimes.
A Quick Reflection
This week tested me. And not in the “look how strong I am” kind of way—but in the “how many more bolts can I break before I snap” kind of way.
I didn’t always handle it well. I lost my cool more than once. I verbally abused the baler more than i care to acknowledge.
But looking back, I realize that’s part of the deal. Farming isn’t just about growing food—it’s about learning when to push, when to pause, and how to keep going when things don’t go your way, kinda like life.
Sometimes patience looks like fixing the same thing ten times. Sometimes perseverance is just not walking away.
This week didn’t go how I planned, but we made progress. And that counts.
If your week’s been full of your own curveballs—just know we get it. Whether you’re stocking up your freezer or just stopping by to read about life on the farm, we’re grateful to have you here.
