The tack room was almost done, and then we changed the layout and built a new wall. We’re never going to finish this project 🔨

This is one of our first videos, and Lexi’s actual first video, where she shows you how to render lard from pork leaf fat.  It’s that time of year so have a look-see and if you need pork leaf fat, we’ve go you covered!

The Best Time To Start … Is NOW!

Stop sign with GO

Have you ever felt excited and a little scared about trying something new? That’s how we felt when we started Longbottom Farm. We didn’t know much about farming (and still have a lot to learn), but we were so curious that we just had to try. Maybe you’ve felt this way too?

Today, I’m sharing a quote that sums up our mindset about new endeavors.  It’s from Alex Hormozi:

“No one’s ever ready. That doesn’t mean you don’t start. Starting is the only thing that proves you’re ready.”

This idea may seem surprising, but it’s exactly what our farm is about. We began by buying our first baby chicks. It was a wild ride (and still is) of learning and making mistakes, but it led us to where we are now.

Even when we felt unsure about farming, we kept going. It was a bit scary, but we learned a lot. Starting our farm has been one of the best things we’ve ever done.

That said, there are still many challenges we face and mistakes to be made.  It’s part of the process of growth, physically and mentally.

Every mistake taught us something and helped us get better at farming.

And about making mistakes – they’ve taught and still teach us so much! I know failing can be scary. But in farming, and in life, it happens. We’ve had tough times and will have more, with real storms and other problems.

Sometimes, things don’t go as planned. But we learn something important from every setback. It’s what made our farm what it is today.  We’re still making the mistakes and it’s what helps us grow as a farm and as people.

Starting something new isn’t easy. I’ve had and still have doubts and worries too. Often, it feels easier not to try.

But not trying can be just as scary as failing.

There are always ‘what ifs’ and doubts whether you start or not. But why not use that energy to grow something good? In our case, meat and eggs and a wonderful life for our family.

Here’s the key point: whether you’re farming, picking up a hobby, changing jobs, or crossing off a bucket list item, starting is what matters. It’s about jumping in, even if you’re not sure what will happen.

You will have failures, but know that without failures, you can’t have success.

Waiting for the new year or a special time to start something? That can hold you back. Any time is the right time to begin.

As this year ends and a new one begins, I encourage you to try something new, no matter how big or small.

You’ll see that big changes start with just one step.

Thank you for being with us on our farm journey, with all its good and hard times. We’re doing more than just raising animals. We’re building a community that cares about where food comes from and its effect on the world. We’d love to hear from you. Share your stories, thoughts, or just say hi. We’re in this together.
