Farm Parent Life: When Your Kids Decide Pigs Make Great Pets
Sometimes the lines between farm animals and pets get blurred! 🐖=🐶 Here at Longbottom Farm, we are all about embracing farm life, all while making sure the animals are well taken care of. As a small family farm, we love sharing these glimpses of farming / homesteading life with you.
Growing Your Dreams One Hour at a Time
Life gets better when we pay attention to what truly matters, like our health and happiness. Since I’ve started life on the farm, I’ve learned a lot about taking small steps to make big improvements. I’m excited to share some simple but powerful ideas that have helped me along the way.
There’s this quote by Dan Koe, a Writer and Creator, that really made me think. He said, “If you can give 8 hours of your day to someone else’s dream, you can give one hour a day to your own.” This quote stuck with me like a catchy tune.
Before the farm, I worked super long shifts, up to 60 hours a week. I earned plenty, but something was missing. I bet some of you feel the same. You work hard, but it doesn’t match up with what you really want deep down. Coming to the farm was my dream. It was a big change and kind of scary, but it paid off.
Think about how much you do for someone else’s dream in those 8 hours. What if you used just one hour on your own dreams? Imagine the cool things that could happen – new ideas, happiness, and big changes in life.
What if you spent an hour each day on what you really want? Maybe you want to grow a garden, cook like a top chef, write, paint, or build something. This hour can really make a difference in making your life reflect what’s important to you.
If this talks to you, here’s a few simple steps to get you going:
- Find Your Spark: What do you love? Name it.
- Make Time: Put this hour in your schedule like any important appointment.
- Plan It Out: Break your big dream into small steps.
- Keep At It: Try to spend an hour on it most days.
- Celebrate Little Wins: These little wins are the start of something bigger.
Sure, we’ve had tough times on the farm, but we’ve also had great moments. We believe chasing dreams is worth it. Like our animals, dreams need time to grow. Everything we produce, which is not only meat and eggs, but a life for our family, shows that dreams can come true. We’re not just feeding people; we’re helping dreams grow – yours, ours, and the whole community’s.
Next time you have a meal from Longbottom Farm, think of it as more than just food. It’s a reminder that your dreams are ready and waiting. What will you do with your hour today? How will you turn your dreams into reality?
Tell us how you’re making time for what you love. Comment below, or share your story with us on social media with #LongbottomFarm. If you can spend a whole day on other people’s goals, you can definitely find an hour for your own. Let’s make those dreams happen, together.
I just heard the “one-hour” quote earlier this week. It resonated with me as well. I have written down 3 goals for the year, each a substantial step to getting me to an ultimate goal. I work on another’s dream in my “Day Job” and need to put more time into mine.
While googling the quote to find the name of who said it, I found your website. Google that quote. You are the first one listed for me.
Beautiful place. Beautiful family. Good luck to you in 2024.
Thanks for the feedback and glad you found it helpful. It was definitely a quote that resonated with me and why I wanted to share it in a blog post. We generally talk about farming, but this quote reminds me of how I got here. Best of luck with your goals in 2024 and thanks again for reading!
