Our heritage Mangalitsa pigs had a wonderful autumn crunching acorns in the forest. Now, we’ve moved them to a finishing paddock where they are knocking back their favorite beverage of the holiday season; whey from our award-winning farmstead cheese.
These piggies love the whey as much as our customers love the cheese. And it’s a good thing, because it solves some important sustainability and environmental challenges.
Whey is a by-product of the cheesemaking process, since over 80% of the milk is lost to whey that has to be disposed of, somehow. But raising pigs on the farm is a perfect solution, as they devour the whey and it’s body-building nutrients while reducing the need for imported feed.
